In an attempt to avoid large unmanageable groups and adhere to Covid-19 guidelines, we are limiting guided group rides to 15 people. Each ride will have a description and a sign up sheet at the JORBA registration page. Only riders who have pre-registered are allowed to ride. You must purchase a general admission ticket and then add the ride you are interested in.

Rides are listed by both fitness level and trail difficulty. We try to have something for everyone.

Fitness Level

A simple 1-10 scale, where 10 is superman, 7,8 and 9 fitness level better be in the top 25% of riders on Strava. If you don’t know what Strava is, you’re lower than 5.

Trail Difficulty

The IMBA Trail Difficulty Rating System is a basic method used to categorize the relative technical difficulty of recreation trails. This system was adapted from the International Trail Marking System used at ski areas throughout the world. Many trail networks use this type of system, most notably resort-based mountain biking trail networks. The system best applies to mountain bikers, but is also applicable to other visitors such as hikers and equestrians. These criteria should be combined with personal judgment and trail-user input to reach the final rating.

How the ride works.

Meet at your designated time and meeting place. A JORBA volunteer will take attendance – remember, only preregistered riders can join the guided rides. After a head count and a chat with your ride leader and sweep, you’ll be off to enjoy the Ringwood trails!

The route is up to the leader and may be adjusted to fit the level of the group. In general, all trails are two way with the exception of, the new trails west of Shepherds Lake, the race trail from Shepherds Lake and the White Crossover Trail down from Pierson’s Ridge.

General Ride Rules

In order to keep the rides moving, the ride leader may adopt the second rider drop sweep. In order for the group to keep moving, as the leader approaches an intersection, he or she may shout “drop”. The second in line stops at the intersection and makes sure the group goes the right way. The “dropped’ rider then joins the group taking the last place as the sweep, to be replaced by the next dropped rider at the next intersection.
